great story, amazing pictures

A great collection of poems, divided into thematic chapters, with original illustrations by many of our favorite illustrators. I don't have enough knowledge of children's poetry to vouch for the selection of verse but this volume is definitely worth checking out even for the illustrations alone. ( )

Ages 4-12, but really all ages will enjoy

A collection of poetry by various authors, divided by topic, with a mix of sweet and funny. One of my favorite poems is Caterpillars by Aileen L. Fisher:

What do caterpillars do?
Nothing much but chew and chew.

What do caterpillars know?
Not much but how to grow.

They just eat what by and by
Will make them be a butterfly,

But that is more that I can do
However much I chew and chew. ( )

From Jack Prelutsky to Edna St. Vincent Millay and Emily Dickinson, this well-organized book of poetry would be a great addition to a classroom: teachers will find quality classic and contemporary poetry on many subjects. This book would be most suited for the K-4 range.
