Small Fry is a book of multiple poems that describes what it's like to be the small kid. The poems show how to stay positive in situations that can make children sad. This would be a great book for children to read if they ever feel left out or different because of their size. ( ) Poetry is something that I have recently learned to love and I can thank Dr. Austin for that! My reasoning is, growing up, I was never taught the importance of it or how to read it, so it was always pushed to the side and avoided at all costs. I would not have been able to appreciate this book or any other poetry for that matter, if it wasn't for Dr. Austin and Children's Literature. This book uses language to emphasize meaning of words and how they are supposed to make readers feel. For example, in the poem "Big Sis" , the words, "big and small er fast and slow er." The "er" being spaced out from the rest of the words show how the characters are feeling and how the comparison takes place. This is a collection of poems about children being small in the big world. It showcases the challenges they face each day such as at school, in a crowd, and during recess. Anyone can relate to these poems whether they are grown or young because everyone was small once. These poems show that it is not always bad to be small and that one day you will grow but for now enjoy being a kid. "Small Fy" by Jaime Adoff is a collection of poems in the point of view of a young, small child. It is about the challenges small children face and events that happen in their lives. The authors use of rhythm and onomatopoeia gives the reader a sense of the character's reality in the poem. I had fun reading this collection of poems and would love to recommend it to any child who feels small. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
