Captain Lacey is offered employment at the Sudbury School to discover the person behind a series of pranks. Unfortunately this escalates to murder. Can the Captain find the guilty suspect before more murders occur.
Still loving this series. (

Lacey accepts a post as secretary to a boy's school head master, in hopes of solving a series of serious pranks. He does that but not before several murders and an attack on his friend and mentor Grenville. True to the time and place, a member of the Rohm is scapegoated by the local magistrate before the Captain sorts things out Lots of story lines in this enjoyable Regency Series are moved forward to ponder before reading the next installment. (

Captain Lacey, after the recommendation of his friend, takes a job as the secretary of the head of a boys' school. It turns out he was hired because of his investigative reputation, as the school has had a series of rather malicious pranks.
Things turn really nasty when someone is killed and Lacey tries to stop a young Romney from being convicted of the murder simply because of his background.
Fair story.
Finding the round and round of relationships with his colonel and the colonel's wife getting a bit repetitive. (

This was another exciting story of mystery and intrigue. The regular cast of characters was present and in this story, Greenville gets stabbed and almost dies. Lacey travels to the school to take on a job as a secretary for a nasty head master; he is really there to get to the bottom of a series of dangerous pranks. Shortly after he arrives, the pranks turn deadly with the first dead body. One body leads to others and Lacey find himself neck deep in a mystery that he’s drawn into because he doesn't believe the Romany scapegoat they are blaming for the first murder is the killer. Lacey unravels the truth. Additionally, he is becoming less melancholia and more interesting as we get to know him better. I still don’t fully understand the relationship between Lacey and Col. Brandon and his wife Louisa or between Greenville and Marrianne but I enjoy all the characters. (
