Pounder parts this gloom with his beloved troubadours but then collapses into a wheezing bigotry. I would recommend these essays especially those on Henry James and James Joyce. It places one in an awkward situation. One can also be troubled by remembering a childhood affection or the comedy albums of Bill Cosby.
