The Snow Wife is a Japanese morality tale about the importance of being honest and keeping one's promises. The story follows a young man who breaks a promise he made to his wife and subsequently ends up losing her as a result of his actions. Only through his repentance are the man and his wife able to be reunited. This story serves to show young readers that all of our actions have consequences and that being dishonest or breaking one's word can yield devastating and unforeseen results. At the same time, this legend is presented in such a way that it is easily able to draw readers in, making them interested in the story and excited to find out what might happen next-- therefore making young children more susceptible to internalizing the tale's message. ( ) I would say this is an okay book. The Snow Wife is actually a tale based on an ancient Japanese legend. This is definitely a fantasy because of the creatures in the book-which are able to talk. The man in the story was approached by a spirit woman whom he makes a promise to. The man ends up breaking the promise and she get mad at him for not keeping this word. This story if interesting because it's a story that has been told for many generations. This is a Japanese folktale about a man marrying a spirit being and betraying her trust. He then has to travel to the spirit world to find her, and win her back. Interesting little tale that brought me to a different culture that I am not very familiar with. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and will recommend it to many youngsters. Audiences of all ages will be mesmerizer by the beauty of both the word and illustrations of this story book.
