The narrative arc takes our hero from teenage wannabe to world-class success, and then on to geriatric anonymity, and even if the overall story is a bit cliched, Clowes infuses it all with enough of his acerbic wit and exaggerated, cartoony art to deliver a worthwhile experience for the reader.
