Genre: Fantasy Age Appropriateness: Primary Review: This book is a great example of fantasy because it includes the familiar characters from the Hundred Acre Woods, such as Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet. The characters are stuffed animals, but aside from that the story deals with themes that children face themselves. The main subject is lying, a concept that children need to be made aware of the negative ramifications that result. The main character of Piglet is flat and dynamic. Not much is known about him because it is a brief picture book, but by the end of the story he learns that lying is not the right way to solve your problems. Too dark and too true for these troubled times.
(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:
