It has been a while since I read the Turing Hopper books, but the are all wonderful. ( ) I am impressed with this series. Andrews has taken the cozy murder and inserted some sophisticated technology to do computer and artificial intelligence and come up with a masterful cross-over between science fiction and mystery. I've ordered the sequel and I'm hoping it won't be the last in the series. Another good Turing Hopper mystery. Although the concept of a supercomputer private detective is ingenious - like Nero Wolfe, she has to rely on her assistants to help solve the case - the character itself can get a little tiring. The science and philosophy of Artifical Intelligence are explored well, but I'm not enamoured of the Personality. Turing is sentient, but as all she can do is think, she tends to overanalyse everything - her 'thoughts' are italicised in an otherwise chapterless book, and these passages can occasionally drag the story down. The action necessarily depends on Maude, Tim, and now Claudia and Sam, her staff and agents, and these characters are endearing in their humanity; Maude especially is wonderful, although I always champion the assistant! In this second sequel about online credit card/identity fraud, there is the suggestion of an Archenemy for Turing, and even the possibility of an Evil Twin! I would prefer straight mysteries, but I am intrigued as to the developments in the next novel. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
