It's supposed to be fiction but you can't help but wonder how much of the reminiscence is actually from his own life. He talks over and over about this father. There's a bit about seeing a therapist. Nonsensical lists of things; likes, dislikes; people and others. I somehow managed to read through it all but still not certain what I've read. ( ) This book. I mean, it's hard to say. It is stream-of-consciousness and switches gears fast and loose, but that's what makes it interesting. I definitely feel like this book isn't for everyone and some people will dismiss it as pretentious or as the rantings of a former child star, but that's what makes it work. Clearly, Culkin borrowed from his own life, the best fiction does. But where is that line? What's fiction? What's reality? Does it matter? Not really. From letters to poetry to lists to short stories to memoir, this is a work of fiction that will make you self-reflective and possibly angry with yourself for the similarities you find. At least, that was my reaction. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Junior would like to get a few things off his chest. He does not know how to write a book (except - maybe - for this one). He does not like books with introductions (so this one has six of them). His therapist says he has issues with closure (granted, this book has seven endings). This is not a novel (everything in it is entirely true, apart from the large parts that are completely fictitious). An utterly original, darkly comic tour de force from the world's most famous childhood star. Now available in paperback. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
