Jacques Brel remains a figurehead in modern songwriting, despite his reluctance to sing in English. This biography explains the popularity of this pop-classical cross-over at a time when such hybrids were fashionable, and reflects the charm of Brel. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

This book does an admirable job of opening Brel to the average reader. The book is lively and does not take sides when reporting family disagreements. It is difficult to understand how a man who brought up his children in an almost Victorian hangover whereby he rarely spent time with them and expected them to be seen but not heard and then, he goes to Paris in an attempt to kick start his music career and becomes a complete bohemian!
There is not a lot of information out there concerning Brel and this tome is all the more valuable for that. ( )
