I really liked this story for its use of language, its illustrations, and its characters. The story follows an AABB rhyme scheme which gives it a light, bouncy feel and would help children recognize similar word sounds with different spellings. The illustrations were creative and animated. The colors used help enhance the mood and emphasized the change in Peter throughout the story. Lastly, Peter's character development was wonderful. He was made fun of on Earth for what he loved, but loved on another planet for the same thing. At first he had fun on his new planet, but then he began to miss his family and his home. He comes back home and is then reunited with his family. I felt that the message of the story was that the grass is not always greener on the other side because the planet where he was loved was not better than his home planet. ( ) Smelly Peter the Great Pea Eater is a wonderful rhyming adventure for kids and it even has aliens. Peter Pod loves to eat peas. He eats them for breakfast, lunch and dinner too! Of course, they do make him toot quite a bit. One morning he wakes of the color of the peas he loves so much. He thinks its cool and can't wait to show the kids at school. Unfortunately his classmates don't feel the same way about his green disposition or his tooty habits. One night green aliens from planet Krell whisk him away and make him their King. They stand in line to serve him their best dishes. Peter asks for peas. They simply don't understand his need for peas. But as Peter tried their dishes he discovered they were delicious. There were parties and more food but Peter longed for home. One morning when Peter awoke, he wasn't green anymore. His diet of non-peas turned him back to the pinkness he had been before. The aliens weren't very happy about this. They wanted their lean, green farting machine back. You will have to read the rest of the story to see what happens next. Note: Parents and Teachers can easily use this book as a tool for eating healthy. Smelly Peter is a perfect example of what can happen if we don't eat the right foods. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
