This is an early Sarah Ash book and it shows, as it's quite immature compared to her later work - here we have too many well-used fantasy tropes, at times overly-lush prose, and fairly simple characterisation. However, all the seeds for her later writing are there: there's some haunting imagery, the setting is intriguing, and she refuses to allow her characters' paths to run too smoothly. Plus, the cover is rather gorgeous :-). ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
A wonderfully evocative fantasy that launches a new British writer. The decadent microcosm that is the palatial home of the House of Memizhon is shocked out of its complacency by the arrival in Myn-Dhiel of two slaves. Not an unusual event in itself, but Lai and Laili are more beautiful, more desirable than anything the Arkhan and Arkhys have ever wanted. The twins are as alike as a boy and girl can be,both devoted to each other and to their goddess,a devotion that is sorely tested by the sacrifices that they are forced to make in order to stay alive.Lai and Laili must be destroyers and redeemers both they regain any kind of freedom.
