My next #bookaday selection... They Called Me Red is an excellent novel for teens (ages 13 and up) that raises awareness about the challenging topics of human trafficking and child prostitution. Well written, with enough detail to bring readers into Devon's harsh world while remaining sensitive to her Young Adult audience. ( )

While the subject matter of human trafficking and child sexual exploitation is extremely sensitive, Kilbourne does the subject matter justice without providing graphic details that young adults may not be able to handle. Overall the characters and story are largely believable and gripping, but I found the relatively short duration of Devon's time in the Cambodian brothel and his rescue a little too easy and convenient. ( )
