Fiction. Science Fiction. HTML:

In this provocative, gripping, and startling novel, bestselling author Ben Bova delivers a knockout read with his trademark blend of cutting-edge science and unrelenting suspense.

Some see stem-cell research as mankind's greatest scientific breakthrough; others, a blasphemous attempt to play God. Suddenly, the possibility of immortality exists. Two brothers, both doctors, stand on opposite sides of the controversy. To Arthur Marshak, his work is a momentous gift to humanity. To Jesse Marshak, it is a curse. And between them stands a beautiful, remarkable woman that both brothers will do anything to save.

Somehow, before it's too late, Arthur and Jesse must bridge the gap that divides them...on an issue that could mean nothing less than life or death for millions.

480 pages to say very little. A lot of repetition. The book is about the politics, corporate realities, and human emotions involved in scientific research. It was okay, but could have been done better in about 200 pages. ( )

Not exactly science fiction, but fiction about science -- research into biological organ regeneration and the religio-moronical opposition thereto. Suspenseful and gripping enough through its 480 pages.

First Ben Bova novel I read and really, really enjoyed it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it got a little too soap opera-y near the end. But as to how it illustrates the ignorance of some people in the name of religon was very well done. I was glad to see that the primary Christian character wasn't just pandering--he really believed what he preached. And on the flip side, the protagonist was just as passionate (and not evil).

I really enjoyed the way Bova switched perspectives from chapter to chapter. I thought that was unique. I'm not a big science fiction fan (outside of a few movies), so I don't know whether I'll read more Bova or not, but because I so enjoyed this book, I'll check him out more. ( )
