This story also has a visual guide for the Seder plate included during Passover. This is a story of Max’s family celebration of Passover and the traditions that go along with it. This is a great tool to help teach non-fiction books, to depict the diagrams that are helpful in learning. The diagrams create wonderful easy to understand facts about the holiday. ( ) Max and his family are celebrating Passover with a Seder dinner and invite us to come along. This picture book does an excellent job of explain Passover and Seder to a young audience. Max is fun loving and seems to be excited about Passover through the pictures. The rhyming style of writing helps the book to flow and keep the readers focus by having repeating parts. There is a summary of Passover before the book begins that would be good for older children, but the book itself describes the summary in an easier to understand language. Overall this would be a great book for a public library for beginning readers and parents that want to introduce their children to different cultures. First introduced in This Is the Pumpkin, Max and his family now prepare to celebrate Passover. In cumulative verse reminiscent of "The House That Jack Built," Max and his sister Ruth shop for matzah in the Passover aisle of the grocery store. "This is the matzah stacked in the aisle. Max reaches up to the top of the pile. 'Matzah for sandwiches, matzah for snacks, for matzah meal brownies and Seder, ' says Max." The family gathers for the traditional Seder that celebrates this holiday of freedom. Symbolic Passover foods are eaten, little sister Ruth chants the Four Questions, and Max takes his turn telling the story of the flight from slavery in Egypt over three thousand years ago. After dinner, the children hunt for matzah that Grandma has hidden. Then they check Elijah's cup to see if the prophet has visited and taken a sip of wine. -- GoodReads geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
