Nothing in television is as it seems, neither is anything in Patrick Sheridn's life. After things explode while working for Classroom Direct (a Channel 1 rip-off) Patrick disappears, now he is in Ireland, alone, and the satellite is down, ( ) Realistic fiction, about the trials and tribulations of a small-town Texas teen who moves to Los Angeles to be an anchor on Classroom Direct, a nationally distributed news program for teens broadcast in schools (sort of like Channel One). Except for a third-act plot twist, this is my favorite of Thomas' novels after Rats Saw God). - Dr. Kottke Patrick Sheridan finds himself leaving the small town lifestyle in Doggett, Texas to live and work in Los Angeles during his last year in high school. Loving his work as a reporter for his school newspaper, Patrick decides to send his portfolio to Classroom Direct, a television news show for teens. He's hired, his parents give their permission, and before he knows it, his bag is packed and he's on his way. Serious about his desire to pursue a career in journalism, Patrick is excited about the opportunities this job will offer. When he arrives, however, he quickly discovers that Classroom Direct is all about ratings and making money. Since Texas represents one of the lowest rating areas, Patrick has been hired to provide a stereotyped Texan image. As he succeeds and becomes a celebrity among high schoolers across the country, Patrick soon discovers the price it will cost and the losses he will suffer. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
