Zach Banning is forced to leave the only home he knows when, after a brutal beating from his father, when he learns he is half-Indian. Conceived over 14 years earlier when his mother was kidnapped by Indians, he sets out to find a father he never knew and a way of life he has never lived. Now he faces a personal battle of finding himself. Who he really is and among what people should he live? 12 years later, Deborah Hamilton is being rushed into an unwelcome attempt to quickly consummate her marriage by her new husband when he is shot and killed by a band of Indians. She is kidnapped, along with the other women and children there, and the men left dead. Zach, now living among the comanches with his Indian father and sister, feels a connection with Deborah the minute he lays eyes on her. He immediately stakes his claim. Hawk, his Indian name, scares yet intrigues Deborah in a way she never though could be. While living with the Indians, Zach protects her in his own way without revealing much about himself. After seeing he has to free her for the safety of his tribe, they give in to one night of passion that makes them both realize it's probably more than lust they are feeling. Once back with her family, Deborah finds that life isn't what she imagined it would be upon her return and that she misses Zach. She soons finds herself in between an unwanted suitor and her dead's husband's family in a battle over land. And after unexpectedly Zach comes back into her life and he tries to protect her, it's a battle of wills as to if either can ever admit that they can and do belong together. Lots of different things going on here...family feuds, secrets, romance, suspense, etc. It was really a great book. I can't wait to read more by this author. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The Comanches did her a favor when they killed her loutish husband on her wedding night. But now this Southern belle is the possession of a fierce, blue-eyed warrior called Hawk . . . Zach Banning, known as Hawk among the Comanches, is caught between two races, two cultures, two lives. Deborah Hamilton is a Mississippi beauty who came to the Texas territory for an arranged marriage. Little did she know, her new husband's people have earned the Comanches' hatred. They enact their vengeance on her wedding night, kidnapping Deborah along with other women and also the settlement's children. She expects the worst at the Comanches' village, but instead finds kindness alongside the challenges. But when Hawk barters her away from her owner, intending to seduce and possess her, Deborah finds herself in a battle of wills laced with deep desire. Virginia Brown is the author of more than fifty novels, including the bestselling Dixie Divas mystery series. I was taken in by this story. It was interesting and told in a way that showed Zack's view point in both worlds and defined his struggle to overcome the way people treated him for things that were out of his control. His love for Deborah was passionate and all consuming. His willingness to sacrifice his total being for her was touching and inspiring. I would love to read other books by Virginia Brown.
I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. ( )
