I liked the accompanying music and how it makes you focus on the art in the book. The Korean song that goes with it added to the appeal of the book, and overall I think kids would enjoy looking at the pictures and imagining who might be beneath the umbrellas. ( ) The illustrations in this book are very simply, set very beautiful. The book is filled with mostly dulled hues of blues and grays. The first umbrella seen is yellow and very clearly stands out against the background. As the reader goes on, another umbrella is added. This time it is bright blue. And then a red, each time adding a new umbrella with a new color. Also, as more and more umbrellas are added, I could notice there were more and more raindrops in the setting of the book though the pictures. the raindrops were making waves in the puddles. The umbrellas look to being going through the town. It had a water color feel to it. This story would be good for students with counting, but also just finding the umbrellas against a background in the story. Also, a fun activity with this would be for students to create their own sceneries with brightly colored objects. This is a wonderfully unique wordless book of children walking to school in the rain that is beautifully combined with music composed specifically with the illustrations. This is such a fresh and different perspective about a common event, walking with an umbrella in the rain. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful. There are multiple songs on the CD that compliment the story that children can listen to while reading the book or reflecting on the book. This is a great book to stimulate children to think about common events in a fresh and different way; to encourage multiple perspectives. I love the combination of music and reading and it would be a fresh addition to a unit about colors, rain, school, connections, differences and similarities. Would also be a great conversation starter about how music invokes emotion and feelings and discuss the ways in which that occurs. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
