Mauldin is fun as usual - I've mostly read his soldier cartoons before. I enjoy editorial cartoons - heck, I get most of my current political news from them! It's interesting seeing history from a right-then viewpoint...I caught most of the history in this one - helped, sometimes, by Mauldin's notes. There were a good many I recognized (recognized the events that triggered the cartoon) without the notes, and a few that, lacking notes, I have no clue what they were referring to. Or at least, no clue what triggered them - the general thrust is usually pretty clear anyway. ( ) After Mauldin's stint in WWII with Willie and Joe came to an end, he became an editorial cartoonist, and a good one, winning the Pulitzer Prize. At this time I believe he was employed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. His art style is reminiscent of Fitzpatrick, his political leanings akin to Herblock. Good acts to follow. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
