It is 1953 and Anthony's father works for the Army and has been recently moved from a posting in Townsville to one in the middle of the outback in a new area called Woomera. There is something very secret happening and against the backdrop of the Cold war, Anthony befriends other boys who live in the town where they run around the bush, catching rabbits, shooting their Dad's stolen rifles and generally getting into mischief. But this is serious business and when Anthony draws show pictures copied from his friend's Dad's photgraphs, he suddenly finds himself infront of the police accused of being a spy! Then there is the problem with his mother, who is scared that they will test a nuclear bomb near Woomera and they will all be subject to radiation poisoning. In the middle of the night, she disappears - where has she gone? p.122 -123. An accident on the range is recorded. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The British Government's going to test atomic bombs on the Woomera Rocket Range. It's in the paper. Mum said that if she'd known they were going to test atomic bombs here, she'd never have come. What's she worried about? It's only a bomb. When the army assigns Anthony's father to work on the top secret atomic testing project in outback South Australia, the family relocates from Townsville to Woomera. The controversial rocket and munitions testing captures Anthony's imagination. But is it really as safe as the government says? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
