Charles Xavier has been betrayed by his identical twin Cassandra - she has stolen his body and taken to the galaxy, using his good name to destroy worlds and send people mad.

Meanwhile the Xavier school is under attack, first by non mutant humans wishing to destroy the mutants, then by sickness, then by Cassandra's warriors, hoping to destroy all of the mutant verse.

It's a long book, that could have done with a little culling - the journalists appeared at random times when you had forgotten about them, and there is only one saving grace for Dr Mccoy where he gets to turn down someone who had hurt his feelings before.

"Classic" X-men drawings this isnt. None of the mutants come out looking particularly attractive, even Scott and Wolverine. There's the usual young man's fantasy of busty girls wearing barely-covering-nipples outfits (with no corresponding male eye candy for the girls). However there are decent fight scenes, and the damage done to the x-men shows that they are less than invincible. ( )

Another find from my public library. Given the popularity of series like these, I don't always get to read them in order. This was my introduction to this series.

See my small note on it over in my blog:

The breathtaking conclusion of the Cassandra Nova storyline. It begins slowly and builds up momentum, ending in a splendid final issue (#126). The art shifts from being realistic and beautiful to quite messy and ugly, which is a shame. The storyline is all over the place as well, with a lot of padding and confusing parts thrown in. There are a few highlights here and there when the plot is slowly unfolded, but they are few and far between. Cassandra is also sadly underused until the very end and the Shi'iar don't do anything. There is a silent issue in the middle of the story as well, and its most frustrating and superfluous, even if it includes an important plot point (which is returned to multiple times throughout the rest of the story, so it's quite a skippable issue). Overall, a monumental volume in X-Men history, but sadly inconsistent. ( )

This is probably the favorite thing I've read from Grant Morrison. I usually find his stuff too surreal and incomprehensible. This was dark, heavy, had a cool plot and it all made sense. I haven't looked ahead, but I'm hoping he wrote more of this series. ( )

I love everything Marvel. The storylines are incredible! They have everything you could want: action, adventure, comedy, romance, political intrigue, allegories, metaphors, etc. Some stories drag, some end too soon. ( )
