On September 10, 2001, Kyle tells his sister, Cat, that he believes he has fathered a son. The next day both Kyle and the boy's mother head off to work and are never heard from again. Cat--a single mother of a young son--sets out to find her brother's orphaned child. Nearly a year later, that search is ongoing when her father, Sam, asks Cat to come to California for the anniversary of her brother's death.
