An adventure story involving a young man, his dog, and two friends who wander through the Western prairies on a mission to make peace between "pale-faces" and "Red men". They face many perils and become heroes many times over. This wonderful story takes the characters (and reader) on an action-packed journey through the Western prairies during the times when relations between the white man and Natives were not always peaceful. RM Ballantyne delivers once again! You will explore the American frontier with Dick Varley and his companion Crusoe. Crusoe is a Newfoundland pooch that Dick loves as a member of his own family. The two embark on adventures in the frontier which demonstrate the value of resourcefulness, political acumen, knowledge of the wilderness, survival skills and of course loyalty. The book is not sanitized for a modern reader, so do not cringe at observations such as "savage". Foreign accents are "sounded out" so that as you read aloud, it will sound more like the French character, the Irish character etc. My teens and I read this aloud for our Literature this month, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. We will be adding more Ballantyne to our library! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
