This book was quite the spin on the Princess and the pea. - More like a sequel! Fun read :) ( ) This story puts a spin on the original Princess and the Pea fairytale. A prince is looking for a wife, but he wants the opposite of what his brother has or what his brother's wife is like. The prince wants a wife who likes to go camping and who can play hockey. Instead of putting a pea under a stack of mattresses, the prince decides to put a packet of frozen peas under the mattresses in order to see how his friend would sleep. The next morning, the friend said she slept fine, not even noticing the packet of peas, and the prince knew that she was the perfect girl for him. This would be a good book for young readers to compare and contrast with the original book. The illustrations also make the book more engaging for the students. Prince Henrik asks his brother Prince Hans about princesses, but Hans' wife Princess Eva doesn't seem like fun at all. Prince Henrik doesn't want someone who's sensitive, he wants someone who likes camping and can play hockey! So he sets out to find her, using a variation of the classic "princess and the pea" method. I always hated that whiny princess in Hans Christian Andersen's The Princess and the Pea. What kind of guest complains about her bed when she's been rescued from a terrible storm? This version is a breath of fresh air. DeGennaro's breezy sketches are charmingly done, and I love the font--each character's name is in a different type. Wilson's Prince Henrik is looking for a tough, uncomplaining kind of girl, and he finds her in a satisfyingly fractured-tale way. Two thumbs up. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Prince Henrik makes a plan to find a wife who is nothing like his royal brother's wife, who he thinks is too sensitive. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
