My review for this novel I received as an Early Reviewer is very late because I lost interest soon after starting it and have only recently decided to give it another go. Overall, I find this book enjoyable, but because I didn't feel compelled to finish it and because there are so many other excellent books to read first, I can't give it very high marks. For me, this was average. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I was very excited to read a book by author, T.L. Higley. When I got this in the mail I started reading it right away. Maybe it was the author or maybe it was just not what I expected, but I found it to be very boring. I did like the history that was mixed about Cleopatra, but the romance between the main character and the Roman was very slow. I read about halfway and could not finish, maybe her other books are better. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Note: sorry about the late review, I have been pretty sick and moved across country recently, but do much appreciate the opportunity to read this book. Guardian of the Flame by T. L. Higley is a good read. It is a little slow in the beginning, but picks up in the middle. The end caught me by surprise. Surprises are a good thing. I do love the historical information intertwined within the story. I would read more books by this author. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this book as I'm not much into historical fiction or non-fiction. But I was pleasantly surprised. I think that the characters are well-developed and the story moves along at a good pace. I enjoyed the bits of history that came to life through this novel. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: Previously released as Guardian of the Flame. In the Alexandrian Library, Roman soldiers scatter papyri over the floor like kindling, intent on destruction. Meanwhile, Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, plots the seduction of the world's most powerful political leader. Sophia rarely leaves the lighthouse, preferring her maps, charts, and astronomy tables. But when her former student, Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, reappears from exile, Sophia finds herself tangled in a web of political and romantic intrigue that threatens not only Cleopatra's legacy, but the future of Egypt itself. Keeper of the Flame grants readers entry to the Alexandrian Library, the legendary lighthouse, and the palace rooms where Cleopatra and Caesar met for the first time. More than just a historical novel, it explores the complex and powerful role of women in the clash of two intellectually advanced, if violent, ancient societies. .Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
