"Who Will I Be, Lord" by Vaunda Nelson is about a little girl which her name is not given and she is comparing herself to her current family. Her great grandpap was a mailman who everyone in the neighborhood knew and who great grandma was a housewife that made the best cakes in the county. She also has a grandpa that is a preacher, a grandma that is a teacher, a uncle who is a pool shark, a cousin that is a jazzman, a father that is a car man, and her mama takes care of all the family but the girl in the story keeps asking herself "What will I be, Lord? Who will I be?"(p.32). The girl in the story develops by realizing that she can be what ever she chooses, because " God gives us each some seeds to sow. The rest is up to us"(p.31). ( )

Who Will I Be, Lord is an adorable book about a little girl who goes over her family's occupational history while trying to determine who will she be when she grows up. This book is an inspirational story for children who are also trying to determine who they will be when they grow up. It would be great to use this book in a lesson that will allow students to write about who they think they will be when they're older. ( )

"And what will I be lord? What will I be?" is a running line in the book. The main character in the book looks back at her family history and discusses the professions of her family members. As she reflects on the things that her family has done, she wonders what she will be when she grows up. She realizes that who she will be is her decision to make. If this book did not mention religious terms, I would share it with students for career day. The book depicts many career choices as well as why the people chose those jobs. It could give the students insight into what career path they want to take when they grow up. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and I would share the book outside of the classroom. ( )

A biography story about a mixed girl whose great grandma is white and great grandma is black. She starts out by notifying us that her family by telling us about her grandpa, grandmother, grandma, grandpa, uncle, dad, cousin and mom. They are all very active people who are known by their jobs. Some are preachers, jazz men, pool shark, housewife, mailman and the whole time the girl (the protagonist of the story) is wondering what she will be as the title says, "Who will I be lord. So she introduces us to her family and their vocations and from time to time we wonder what she will be. ( )

This book is about a family discussing their different professions. She talks about her great-grand parents, her parents, aunts and uncles, and cousins and their occupations. At the end of each page she asked the Lord what she will be. At the end, she realizes she has the choice to be whatever she wants to be ( )
