Cynthia Rylant’s retelling of Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs reminded me of my childhood! Flipping the pages, the illustrations brought me back to watching the movie multiple times. I am not sure if I ever read any version of Snow White, but this was exactly like Walt Disney’s movie. Overall, I enjoyed reading this story. I think the content would appeal to a broad range of students (maybe K-4th), but the actual writing may be for the older students. I really loved the illustrations because they looked like they were still pictures from the movie. Students could compare and contrast to the movie while reading. The writing was also interesting. It was clear, organized, and flowed nicely throughout the book. The writing was also engaging because it pushed the reader to think about important issues. On many pages, there was important advice to remember. For example, “Truth can be dangerous, if it is a truth one wishes not to hear.” Or “It is when we are most lost that we sometimes find our truest friends.” And “When the wicked want to bring down the innocent, they aim for a loving heart.” These quotes can be challenging to understand for young students, but are really important lessons in life! The big idea of this story is the magic of love, friendship, and good overcoming evil. ( ![]() geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
