Loved this book. the speech and writing make you journey to this are of america and understand a little of the character of the town.the town still exist and the attitudes as well. Well worth the slow start and the strange writing style. not a page turner but a good loook at the post war in america. ( )

4278 Holly, by Albert French (read 21 Feb 2007) This 1995 novel is laid in Supply, NC, in 1945 and tells of a poor white girl falling in love with a black man. This is a wrenching book and tensely exciting, but the girl, Holly, is such a birdbrain it is hard to see how a smart guy like Elias could fall in love with her and expose her and himself to the awful consequences of their action in the segregationist South of 1945. Readable, poignant, but on reflection an unlikely plot. ( )
