Excerpt from Iambica: An English-Greek and Greek-English Vocabulary for Writers of Iambic Verse The following pages are an attempt to provide for students practising the writing of 'greek Iambics' a fuller vocabulary than can be given at the end of a book of exercises, free from the confusing admixture of unsuitable forms, such as are to be found in a general english-greek lexicon. It has been compiled in the main from the actual vocabulary employed by the dramatists in extant tragic dialogue, with sparing addition from other sources. Consequently it is very imperfect as a translation of the English language into Greek. But while it would be too much to expect that it should contain nothing which could offend the individual taste of Aeschylus or Euripides, it is hoped that, at least as regards dialect, there is little in it which could induce them to sink their differences in a joint attack' upon the compiler. Part II. Is somewhat of a compromise. In the original design, in accordance with which Part II. And much of Part I. Were completed, the latter contained only the Greek words.
