After taking up surfing to pass the time during family trips to the beach, Floridian Kelly Slater discovered that he had a passion for surfing, and found that it brought him more peace and satisfaction than anything else. Training with his brother, Kelly soon began surfing in amateur competitions, and scored his first victory at the age of eight. After graduating high school and taking up surfing full time, Kelly turned pro and began competing with surfers around the world in the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship.
