Grumpy

When Little Roo wakes up, he just feels grumpy. His mother tries everything to make him feel better, but nothing she does makes any difference.

Until…she finds the perfect hole. How will a deep, wide, and muddy-at-the-bottom hole make Little Roo smile? Well, Mom always knows best!

The story was very relatable from the get-go. I always have days where it's a "lovely summer morning" but I was "feeling grumpy and didn't know why." It was kind of funny to find myself relating to a baby kangaroo.
This would be a great book to read to a classroom or group because the book is interactive. In some parts you have to turn it sideways in order to read it, making the book more vertical than horizontal - which was very interesting and enjoyable because the page had to do with how high the kangaroo was being tossed by his mother.
I also really like the direction of the text - it followed the kangaroos as they jumped in a wave-like line, adding a kind of motion or action to the characters that we only see in one spot.
In the end, we realize that there is no reason for us to not smile all the time, especially when it is so beautiful out and we are surrounded by loved ones.

Loved this book. Not as much as the "Guess how much I love you"- book. The drawings are also very good. Th story is a bit more 'boyish', about a grumpy little kangaroo. I suppose that when reading it to a small child, that's okay, but it was a bit strange now. ( )
