This was almost a romantic suspense lite. Petra comes to Venice searching for her friend Sara who left with a man calling himself Count Carlo Berini. Sara is now missing. When Petra gets to Venice she goes to Carlo to ask where Sara is. He denies ever having seen her. Petra doesn't believe him and sneaks into his palace and does other things to dig around to find Sara. After he finally convinces her that he never met her and had nothing to do with Sara's disappearance, they work together to find Sara. There is another man in the form of a worker at the British Consulate who also helps and who tries to start a relationship with Petra. Petra and Carlo start an affair and Sara is found and it all ends happily. A very subdued book but enjoyable. If I were going to fall in love and marry an Italian count this is how I would like it to happen, easy peasy.
The lack of any real conflict kept it from more stars. It was interesting to read about the sights in Venice though so that was fun. ( )
