This primer is intended as a guide to psychologists practicing in hospitals. It is particularly aimed at those who are new in the hospital setting. This primer provides information about pertinent hospital issues such as staff privileges, organized staff membership, roles for psychologists in hospitals, training for psychological work in hospitals, and the legal, legislative, and regulatory matters that have an impact upon such practice. The primer also suggests ways of achieving appropriate recognition in status, salary, and governance within the hospital setting. It is intended to provide needed information, support, and guidance to assist psychologists in beginning or enhancing hospital-based practice.
