Questo è il genere di romanzo che non avrei neanche guardato di striscio se l’autrice non fosse J.R. Ward, che – ormai lo sanno anche i muri – è una delle mie scrittrici preferite. Voglio dire, angeli versus demoni? Sette anime da salvare? Perché il mondo non crolli? Pare proprio la premessa perfetta per un dramma in salsa religiosa che proprio non fa per me.

Invece Ward ci ha messo il suo zampino ancora una volta ed è uscito fuori un romanzo molto interessante: dal taglio introduttivo, visto che apre una serie, ma con in seno già diversi elementi succulenti.

In primis, ho amato tantissimo che Ward mettesse ben in chiaro che non sono i demoni a far fare brutte cose agli esseri umani, ma sono questi, con le loro azioni, a far sì che quelli riescano a possederli. Leggere che il male deriva unicamente da esseri maligni, deresponsabilizzando così le persone, mi avrebbe fatto incazzare di brutto.

Poi è pieno di discreti riferimenti alla Confraternita del Pugnale Nero, che è il motivo per cui ho ripreso in mano questa serie per finirla: i due mondi finiranno per incontrarsi presto, probabilmente già in The Savior, e non ho intenzione di farmi beccare impreparata (con grande dispiacere di chi non legge in inglese, visto che la pubblicazione italiana di Fallen Angels è ferma al secondo libro).

Infine, sebbene Io voglio si presenti con una trama molto semplice, finisce per mescolare le carte diverse volte e in modi diversi: senza fare spoiler, già in questo primo libro sembrano esserci più livelli nei quali questa gara tra Bene e Male opera e sono molto curiosa di vedere come andrà a finire, sapendo anche quello che so dalla Confraternita del Pugnale Nero… in un modo o nell’altro, Ward riesce sempre ad avere tutta la mia attenzione... Wow. What an emotional roller coaster. This is my first J.R. Ward book, and I don't know how I missed out before! I both loved and hated Jim and Vin, and Jim's fallen angel buddies are highly questionable. LOL But this is the first book I've read where the female part of the romance is a prostitute. (I've read a couple with *former* prostitutes, though.) It was a fabulous read and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the next book! ( )

I’d heard so many great things about J.R. Ward when I was in the publishing business, and yet I hadn’t gotten around to reading anything by her until last month. From the first page, Covet held me spellbound. Ward’s writing is just as stellar as I’d been led to believe. She’s a master wordsmith, painting vivid pictures with every sentence. I often went back and re-read a passage, because it was so striking. I found myself highlighting turns of phrase often, too. What can I say? The woman knows her craft, and wields it expertly. But at about the 40% mark, I found I was picking up the novel less and less. The story started to lose steam. I didn’t care quite as much about what happened to the characters. I went longer and longer between reading sessions, until I finally had to admit I wasn’t interested anymore. Ward’s gorgeous prose just couldn’t keep me engaged after a certain point, which is a shame, because she’s amazingly talented. I look forward to trying another book by her — but not one in this series. ( )

Loved this!

This is the second time I’ve read this, though it’s been several years. I enjoyed more the second time around.

I love the way J.R. Ward writes the interactions between the characters and builds the story around them. This book is a great introduction for someone who has never read J.R. Ward. There’s a little something for everyone it seems. Romance, suspense, love able characters, an adorable pet, supernatural, action…yeah a little bit of everything. ( )

I like this book. It's a fun read. Nothing more, nothing less. The characters (especially Jim) were nice and believable enough. I am definietly going to read more of this series. ( )
