In the short novel, S.O.R. Losers, Avi portrays a middle school soccer team that is absolutely awful at soccer. They lose by scores of 30 -0. This middle school is used to winning and everyone is required to play one sport a year, so when the nerdy kids have to play a sport, they all choose soccer. By the end of the school year, the students at the middle school have rallied around them as they prepared for their last and final game of the season.
Use: I would use this book as a good laugh and fun story for upper elementary students. And, I would use it for teaching about sportsmanship through a story they can relate to. And, to discuss winning and the necessity of that. This book is a good example of contemporary realistic fiction because it gives us a realistic environment of a middle school soccer team. Also, we can relate to the students and the experiences they are forced to go through.

This is a story about a group of 7th grade students who are everything but athletes. South Orange River School is known for their outstanding athletic program and even more recognized for their continuum of winning streaks. This group of non-athletes tries their absolute best by holding practices and never giving up however they still manage to fail. Finally school spirit has some influence on the team however will it be enough to bring them to a victory? ( )

This book is a fun and humours read. It takes a reader through the life of a smart group of students that are not good at sports. They must play a sport according to the rules of the school. They are left playing soccer and already know that they are not good at it and they accept it. They try thier best and practice but end up losing the majority of thier games. The school begins to back up the team to encourage them to win one game. Will this team succeed? If they do or not, they will understand that they will be who they will be. ( )
