Jack Higgins is a long-time Chicago editorial cartoonist who has won the Pulitzer Prize and is something of a Chicago icon. This collection of his work is arranged roughly by category and spans most of his career, although more heavily slanted toward recent years. The cartoons are fine, well-drawn, funny and pointed. The main drawback of the book is the lack of annotation; for a collection with a significant number of local Chicago editorial 'toons, this is a big minus for the non-Chicagoan reader. The few pages of text aren't adequate; what was really needed was a blurb for each cartoon, and a more specific date for each one than the copyright year. Still a nice collection by a good editorial cartoonist who shows an interesting mix of conservative and liberal views. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
An institution at the Chicago Sun-Times, his home paper for more than twenty–five years, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Jack Higgins gathers for the first time in My Kind of ’Toon (Chicago Is) approximately 250 editorial and political cartoons. Over the years, he has filed syndicated cartoons from the Soviet Union, Hungary, Ireland, and Cuba. From his front-row seat he has lately focused on the highs and lows of the Chicago and Illinois politics that produced both the first African American president and a string of corrupt gubernatorial administrations.
