Reviewed by Marta Morrison for TeensReadToo.com I enjoyed the second book of this fantasy series, following ROWAN OF THE WOOD. I was fortunate to have read the first book last year. This time Cullen isn't as noble as he was in the first book. He is tired of having a wizard living in his brain. The Rowan is also tired of life now and wants out. He is depressed and is having a hard time dealing with what his wife has become. A new character has emerged in this book. It is the math teacher who has a thing for Max, Cullen's favorite teacher. It is good because he turns out to be something of a hero. All of the characters are well fleshed out and are believable. This time they try to send the Rowan to the otherworld while saving Cullen. It backfires and they instead have to save Max from Fiana's clutches. I can't say much more because I will give too much away. If you like fantasy, PLEASE check these books out. I promise you won't be sorry! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I know for some that the climax will be too short, but I was glad of that. The best part of a book for me is getting to know the characters and following them around in their everyday lives, so I was not disappointed. Regardless, I thought that the story moved along quickly and that there was plenty of action and back story. I had a hard time putting it down. Christine and Ethan write from their hearts and from the hearts of their characters.
I could tell that I really liked this series when I noticed how excited I was to see how the characters were doing and what they were up to after the first book. I was so glad that the first book wasn't the end of their adventures! I loved the ending of this book - some great surprises there. And to me, the way the major battle was resolved was unique and funny. I would have liked to see this in a movie.
A couple more tidbits -
The way the Samuels family is painted just really tickles me. I'm glad that we didn't see the last of them in the first book (although, not good for Cullen's sake). One of my favorite parts of the book was the way Cullen (positively) reacted to trading his PBJ sandwich for a tofu and sprouts sandwich. Little quirks like that really endear me to a book. ( )
