I enjoyed this light hearted but incredibly detailed look at famous royal marriage disasters. ( ) I thought I'd find this book to be exceedingly boring, just a list of facts and dates, but it was actually very interesting and entertaining. Each different section was only about 15-20 pages so it went pretty quickly. The author did a good job of not taking sides in any particular relationship, which I was thankful for. Even when it came to Prince Charles and Lady Diana, she didn't paint Diana as a complete saint as most are wont to do, she made full disclosure of even her mistakes. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a passion for Royals, or scandal in general.
A funny, raucous, and delightfully dirty 900-year history of the royal marriages of Europe's most famous-and infamous-monarchs.
Since time immemorial, royal marriages have had little to do with love - but almost everything to do with diplomacy and dynasty. Clashing personalities have joined in unholy matrimony to form such infamous couples as Russia's Peter II and Catherine the Great and France's Henry II and Catherine de Medici - all with the purpose of begetting a male heir. But with tensions high and silverware flying, kings like England's Henry II fled to the beds of nubile mistresses while Queens such as Eleanor of Aquitaine plotted their revenge.
