Mokona's Okimono Kimono is a delightful, educational treat for kimono lovers. As a professional artist, Mokona created (actually dyed her own yuzen!) six of her own kimono based on themes from manga for a museum-type exhibit. She goes on to explain how she fell in love with kimono and how fashionable both antique and modern kimono can be. She interviews two celebrities and offers some great fashion tips for making your own kimono ensembles shine. Mokona has impeccable taste and being a long-time student of kimono (Check out Liza Dalby's book!), I can't fault any of her conclusions. Okimono Kimono is a wonderful, diverting read featuring some of the most beautiful kimono to draw the eyes. I love how this book could be read by any age but does a particularly good job of encouraging young girls to get interested in kimono and keep the culture alive. Possibly the most fun non-fiction book I own. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Here's an exciting and charming addition to the CLAMP collection of works! CLAMP artist Mokona loves the art of traditional Japanese kimono. In fact, she designs kimono and kimono accessories herself and shares her love in Okimono Kimono, a fun and lavishly illustrated book full of drawings and illustrations, interviews (including an interview with Ami of the J-pop duo Puffy AmiYumi!), and even short manga stories from the CLAMP artists.
