Lots of wonderful pictures. I gave it to my gear head, car loving husband, and he was thrilled with it! Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This is a great book with lots of photos from 1960's drag racing. Full of information. It would be a great gift to anyone interested in cars and drag racing. It gives you all the ins and outs during 1960- 1970. The amount of research, details, and the vintage photographs here are simply stunning. Charles R. Morris has done a fantastic job of collecting and assembling this material into a cohesive whole that tells the story of a bygone era. And....the cars! The many Cobras, Mustangs, Fairlaines, Galaxies, Comets, and Thunderbolts are covered in great detail, with plenty of specs and racing history. Great photos of all of the different vehicles from that generation. Good for racing lovers.Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. TOTAL PERFORMERS: Ford Drag Racing in the 1960s is simple a very cool book. 165 pages jam packed with photos of some of drag racings best cars with written highlights about both the vehicles and the driver/owner. This is a gear head’s book and is certain to delight.Checking out the Ford Galaxies and Mustangs of my youth takes me back to Friday nights at the U.S. 30 Drag Strip in Northern Indiana as the smell of burnt rubber and exhaust fumes once again fill my senses. While this book talks only about the Ford cars of the 1960s but it will appeal to any fan of the quarter mile track. From California to Florida and Indianapolis, this slim book covers it all. The printing is a little small but that is all the better so as to get in as many details as possible. From Barney to Dick Oldfield, the Boss 302 engine to the more stealth Boss 429, Tunnel Wedges and Hot Rod magazine, this book has t all. What a thrill ride for those who lived through it, and what a trip for those who just want to know more about this important era in both racing and in car manufacturing. You would be driving the car you are now with out some of those open field lab tests of the day. Just looking at the cover brings a smile to my face. And it is a great reference work, steeped in details and specifications of the engines of the day as well as mini-bios of the important people of the age. TOTAL PERFORMERS is a total winner all around. I did win this book through LibraryThing. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The 1960s was arguably the most important decade for drag racing. It had exciting cars, thrilling races, rapidly changing technology, and most important, factory participation. Among the best high-performance cars and engines were those coming from Dearborn, Michigan. Ford Motor Company's "Total Performance Years" saw a breakthrough as Ford's drag racing program helped the younger, performance- and style-conscious consumer begin receiving some recognition on the street, and of course, generate sales in the showroom. Factory participation in drag racing pushed the envelope for high-performance developments. In this new paperback edition, Ford's FE-series engine, Police Interceptors, GT 390, 427 SOHC, 428 Cobra Jet, and Boss 429 are all covered in detail. See the cars and the drivers that made them famous: Dick Brannan's Goldfinger, Bill Lawton's Mystery Mustang, "Dyno Don" Nicholson's Eliminator Comet, Gas Ronda's stretched Mustang, and Al Joniec's Batcar. Follow the progression from the early Starliners to the factory lightweight Galaxies to the Thunderbolts, Shelby Cobras, Mustangs, and more. Accomplished journalist and lifelong Ford aficionado Charles Morris takes you back to the "Total Performance Years" through first-hand accounts as well as with more than 400 rare photographs. A drag racer since 1966, Morris has been a crewmember for a Top Alcohol Funny Car and a Pro/Stock team, and has run cars in Stock, Super Stock, and Nostalgia Super Stock classes. This book is a must-read for all drag racing fans, not just Ford enthusiasts. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
