Outlawsis a sample of seven Mexican corridos about bandits who lived in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The origins of this form of popular poetry-- still practiced in Mexico-- can be traced back to the old Spanish romances, brought to America by European colonialists. Los corridosare a form of storytelling in verse which have been sung for centuries in the north of Mexico. They tell about the deeds of popular heroes, but also of outlaws who, throughout time, have become genuine legends. Some of them were generous thieves, like Robin Hood; others were bandits whose illegal endeavors favored the underprivileged; the rest were robbers who simply frightened the population, and who could either be noble or cruel. However, they continue to be an important part of contemporary popular culture in Mexico. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
