Amelia Rules, a fiction written by Jimmy Gownley has both a humorous and life like side. This is a book any kid can relate to! Amelia has tons of stuff going on and even a crush she's trying to impress but just cant find the right words to let him know. The pictures are colorful and the people show a lot of expression. I personally think you will really enjoy reading this book. Reviewer,Kristin. ‘ Amelia Rules’ is a hard-cover graphic novel series comprised of thirty pages of the comical life of young Amelia Louise McBride. The series is aimed at a young audience as Amelia and her friends take on bullies, school, and family. In ‘Amelia in What Makes You Happy,’ Amelia and her entire school discover that Amelia’s Aunt Tanner is an ex-rock star. Dealing with the sudden attention, Amelia recognizes the importance of true friends and family. The author includes comical antidotes and maintains appropriate content. Although the content and visual images are appropriate, Amelia is portrayed as sassy when dealing with her arch nemesis. The illustrations readily portray movement and sound effects by the frequent usage of squiggly lines and shadows. Young readers will find this series fun and refreshing.
Amelia Rules! contains funny takes on kids’ adventures, but the stories aren’t shallow. The emotions are adult, although the stories cause the reader to temporarily forget about the downsides of being young, just as Amelia’s adventures let her put aside her worries. While this is happening, of course, there is superheroe / ninja drama. Kisses are had, Mary Violet becomes Ultra Violet, and Reggie is drunk with power!
