In 1970, Barry Windsor-Smith burst onto the comic-book scene with his dynamic portrayal of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, altering the course of the blue-eyed Cimmerian forever, and cementing himself as one of the greatest artists to touch pencil to paper. Nearly forty years later, Dark Horse Comics, in the tradition of the Dark Horse Archives collections, reprints Barry Windsor-Smith's entire run on Marvel's Conan the Barbarian in two fine hardcover volumes! It's leather bound, had a cloth ribbon book marker, and very nice quality paper was used for the pages inside. The cover also has some etched designs, and a graphic of Conan charging headlong thru some snow.
This book contains the first 10 Marvel Conan the Barbarian comics. The coloring has been remastered, or redone, to awesome effect.
The real draw here would be the art of Barry Windsor-Smith. The art is excellent, with great attention to detail, especially as the book progresses.
The stories are decent too, with some adaptions of REH tales (Rogues in the House, The Tower of the Elephant), and some other pastiches based on various other REH tales or poems.
There is a lengthy forward by Roy Thomas that details where he got the ideas for each tale from. ( )
