I'm not a fan of books about unredeemed little brats being naughty for naughty's sake, though I did get a chuckle out of the "underpants" moment. ( )

Hattie loves being bad and stirring up trouble, but when she realizes that being bad comes with a price, she decides to change her old ways and becomes good. Soon she realizes that being good isn’t all it has cracked up to be either. This story is humorous and the illustrations flow with it perfectly. It’s a good book to read with children or students when talking about behavior and choices. For an older group it allows them to weigh options and discuss the compromises of being good and bad. I really enjoyed this book and think it did a good job presenting this massage in a funny humorous and entertaining way. ( )

This playful picture book proclaims in dramatic fashion the daring escapades of Hattie the Bad. Foretelling how Hattie came to be so bad, the book explains that sometimes being good just is not much fun. However, being bad comes with a price and Hattie soon finds parents wary of letting their children socialize with her. It’s time to change tactics; Hattie must become Hattie the Good. Hattie comes to find this ostracizes her from children who think she’s no longer any fun. How does one strike the balance? Hattie decides to be bad “with just a teensy bit of good.” This story expertly weaves multiple fonts with illustrations to stress words and ideas, which helps convey the meaning of words through visual literacy. The illustrations make liberal use of color that makes the characters come alive and pop off the page. These illustrations match up perfectly with the abundance of jokes for kids; there’s a whole spread dedicated to the word ‘underpants’ that is sure to tickle children. Hattie the Bad encourages children to think about their own behaviors and this would be a perfect start for a conversation about compromises between being ‘good’ and being ‘bad’. For the parent or teacher trying to convince children some basic limits, this picture book would likely prove beneficial. Recommended for purchase. ( )

Hattie thought being good was boring. She couldn't get dirty and she had to go to bed early, so she decided to be bad. Parents didin't like how she was bad and wouldn't let their children play with her. So Hattie decides to be good, so good that she wins an award, but then she doesn't have any friends because she shows them up. What is Hattie to do? Grades K - 3. ( )

Hattie starts off as a little girl good, but she finds it is no fun so she becomes bad and has fun but parents don't like her and son't want their kids ot play with her so she becomes really good, but the kids don't like her being the " perfect" one so they don't want to play with her. Finally she decides to be good, most of the time, which works. I love the design of the book, the way the text is laid out is fun! ( )
