An interesting look at unusual people and their eccentric, cluttered lives. ( ) If the majority of the peoples domestic habitats showcased within this book had been from England, rather than America, one would have called them British eccentrics. In fact, the one or two domiciles that were photographed in London pale in comparison to their New York cousins. Many of the people's personal obsessions, Elisa Nalin's shoes, or Nicolas Malleville's hats become apparent when snooping round a corner; others take you totally aback; who suspected that Karl Largafeld was a bibliophile on such a grand scale. I never imagined that I would have much interest in a fashion designer's living room, but this man's book piles are awe inspiring! The book is made up of mostly full, and double-page colour photographs of the living spaces people have created for themselves, highlighting details that make them so unique. Then between 80-100 words introducing the occupants, followed by a customised hand written questionnaire: often asking something pertinent to their job, followed by an off-the-wall question such as "do you believe ghosts exist", or "What would you like to hide?" If you are thinking of reading the text cover to cover I'm sure you could do so before your coffee got cold; but the images are what this book is all about; and they will keep you engaged for hours, what's more you will want to come back at a later date and try to sate your appetite. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The Selby Is in Your Place was conceived when fashion and interiors photographer Todd Selby began taking portraits of dynamic and creative people--authors, musicians, artists, and designers--in their home environments and posting them on his web site. Nosy by nature, he wanted to see how personal style was reflected in private spaces. Lucky for us, he found his answer in the color-rich and eclectic quarters of a diverse group of subjects, including Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, Faris Rotter, Andre Walker, and Olivier Zahm, in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, and London. Each profile is accompanied by Selby's watercolor portraits of the subjects and objects from their homes, and illustrated questionnaires, which Selby asks each sitter to fill out. This book consists of over thirty profiles, many of which have never-before-seen, selected exclusively for the book. The result is a collection of unique spaces bursting with energy and personality that together create a colorful hodgepodge of inspirational interiors. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
