This is an excellent book for anyone interested in sharing the gospel with Muslims. It presents a thorough understanding of the basics of Islam as both a religion and a way of life. Additionally, J.D. Greear does a great job of listing the key objections Muslims have to the gospel and one or more ways to overcome each. As Christians hoping to explain the truth of Jesus with Muslims it is helpful to understand how they view God, how they understand Christians, how they view the Quran, and what they believe about the Bible. This book is packed with information on each of these topics and much more. Perhaps the most helpful chapters, even for Christians who already understand Islam, are the two on overcoming objections to the gospel. These alone are worth the price of the book.

One special note: Don't stop reading when you complete the final chapter, continue on and read the Appendix, titled "Speaking In Islamic Code." This chapter is all about contextualization, or how to frame the gospel and if a Christian should adopt Islamic practices, terms, use of the Quran, traditions, etc., when proclaiming the gospel. It is an important topic when sharing God's word with Muslims and one each church and missionary should understand and pray about.

I did find myself disagreeing with the author on one point: the reason more Muslims are not reached with the gospel. The author believes the reason more Muslims are not reached is a lack of faith in the Christian community. He states, "I become more and more convinced that what keeps God's power from pouring out on a particular people is not a lack of willingness or ability on God's part, but unbelief on the part of the church!" Yes, more Christians need the faith of a mustard seed to rely upon God, and the willingness to go and proclaim the truth, but I don't believe that we can limit God's sovereign plan of salvation. When God is ready for mass revival amongst the Muslims, He will raise up missionaries and pour His Holy Spirit out upon the Muslim population. In fact, I believe there is evidence that this is already underway.

Still, this disagreement is minor in light of the overall purpose of the book, which is exceptionally well done. I heartily endorse this book as a relatively quick read packed with useful equipping information for the evangelical Christian. ( )
