Jim Rook is a school teacher who is in charge of a remedial class. A Korean student somehow links him to an Asian spirit who reanimates his dead cat as an advance "thank you" for tasks not yet performed. The story grabs you quick and pulls you along without too much in the way of side issues. A fast reading story and pretty interesting. I'll be reading more in this series. ( ) Demons Door features series character, teacher Jim Rook, who can see ghosts and demons. A Korean demon begins exerting its influence on him apparently through a Korean student. The result is a fast-rolling story Masterton specializes in, featuring an ethnic supernatural character (a demon in this case), in what is a relatively short novel. Pretty good, lots of grisly fun. Masterton is the best at what he does. There is a surprising lack of horror in Demon's Door, which offers a plot akin to those found in Korean horror cinema. It's an original angle from Masterton, however there's not enough substance nor enough tension to bring it up to the author's usual standard. It's relatively short with no requirement to have read any previous Rook stories. It does offer a few genuine shock moments and is above the par of many other horror novels, just not up the usual Masterton bar. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
