This beautifully-illustrated book tells the story of Nini who, although she loves her home very much, wondered off one day when the door was left open. She loved the outside too, but when night came, she grew frightened and wanted the safety of her home. Great story! Marvelous illustrations! ( ) I enjoy the imagery and talent of Anita Lobel. Zinnia's are one of my favorite flowers and each year I harvest the dried seeds and plant them the next. Lobel has lovely images of zinnias in most of her illustrated books. This is a story of Nini the cat who loves his quiet, warm and cozy house. But, one day the door is open and out he sneaks to discover and explore the outdoors. Enjoying new smells, sights and sounds, he relishes the excursion. As it grows darker, the wild animals stalk, leaving Nini one very scared cat. Finding the courage to listen to the calls of his loved ones, he takes a chance and leaves his hiding place to run home. Comfortable in his surroundings, he is happy to be home...until the next time. Nini is a cat who roams out of the comfort of her home and enjoys the outdoors while it's daylight. However when darkness comes is when she becomes frightened. There are creatures and noises that she does not recognize and hides in a tree. Eventually her owners call her back and Nini musters up the courage to find her way back home and enjoys the comforts. The illustrations appear to be paintings and beautifully depict a nice outside space during daylight and a dark weary forest at night. I recommend this book for ages kinder through 3rd because the text is not so complicated and the feeling of being scared is an emotion that most can relate to.
The last time readers met Nini, the beguiling striped tabby, she thought she was being left behind when her family went away. Now it is Nini who is making travel plans, thanks to an open door....Told with an elegant simplicity that children will appreciate ... this is filled with Lobel's endearing watercolor-and-gouache artwork, with big swirls of emotion and the tiniest nod of relief in a little cat's upturned lip. A wonderful read-aloud, with the length of the text, the size of the art, and the adventure of the tale all being just right. Onderdeel van de reeks(en)PrijzenOnderscheidingenErelijsten
