I liked this book for two reasons. I liked the organization of this book. Each page contained a poem about a different animal, but they were all related to an overarching idea about animals that you would find in a carnival. For example, there were poems about a lion, a tortoise, and an elephant. I also liked the content of the poems. I think that because each poem is about animals that are recognizable, it makes it interesting and easy to follow along with. The big idea in this text is to demonstrate how poems can be written. ( )

I really loved this book for several reasons. First, the sequencing of the plot is easy-to-read. For example, it starts with the carnival and then gradually describes each animals through poetry. The sequential plot allows the reader to more easily understand the idea of the carnival. Second, the illustrations enhance the story. For example, the poem, "Pianists," talks about how she screeches, screeches, and screeches, and the illustrations has a crazy colors like red, and orange. Also, the illustrations focus is a lady screeching. The main message of the book is community, and working together. ( )

I liked this book for several reasons. I feel this way mainly because of the language, and illustrations seen throughout the story. Each poem in the book emphasizes a different animal. With each animal, the poem uses very descriptive language, in explaining the characteristics that pertain to that specific animal. For example, in the poem titled, “Elephants”, the author states, “when elephants gather, the ground starts to tremble”, and “his footfalls are often mistaken for thunder”. The descriptive language used in these two lines, indicate to readers that elephants are in fact massive. The illustrations drawn for each animal create a beautiful visual for the reader. Not only do the pictures enhance the story, but they also correlate with the text perfectly. In the poem titled, “Elephants”, the text suggests that they are very large animals, so in the illustration drawn for them, the elephant is depicted as the largest animal on the page, overlooking the other animals in the wild. Z liked this . . . but definitely missed the Peter Sis illustrations of his favorite Prelutsky volumes. ( )
