"A Rose for Melinda" deals with friendship, illness and death. I quite liked the format of the book with the story being told solely through emails, letters, text messages, journal entries and doctors' reports, but the plot felt rushed and I didn't engage with the characters. By the end of the book I should have been sobbing; instead I was left cold. Whilst not a bad book, it could have been so much better. ( ) Soon as I picked up this book, I wasn't able to put it down. A definite good read. I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone. It tells the story of Melinda Skye, a beautiful and talented ballerina dancer whose dreams are to one day join a dance troup and become a professional ballerina. Yet when her dreams are within reach, Melinda faints and has to be rushed to the emergency room. Where soon, the doctors once thought it might be just a bad case of flu or a severe case of anemia, slowly they begin to realize, Melinda, only 13 at the time, is now diagonised with Lukemia. Through letters to her childhood friend, Jesse; Melinda finds the strength to go on and fight her cancer. Once in remission, her cancer seems to be at bay..and once she realizes she's in love with Jesse, her cancer comes back. At fifteen, she dies of her cancer and leaves behind letters to her loved ones... At least she got a second chance to live. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
